On June 15, 2023 It was the first time I travelled to Thailand by railway. The purpose of the journey is to travel from Vientiane, Laos, to Bangkok, Thailand. This trip's destination is Bangsue Grand Station, Thailand.

Preparation

Remember these documents:

  • Passport / Border pass
  • Train ticket
  • COVID vaccine (In Laos, generally use the green card)

Station

I transit through the following stations.

Thanaleng Station

  • Buy a train ticket for 10THB (6,000LAK). but I have to buy it twice for no reason (I figured out later that in Thailand they sold it for 20THB per ticket; Maybe at Laos railway station they're not updating the ticket price yet).
  • Do immegration
  • wait for the train

Firstly, I began in Laos at Tha Na Leng Station. The passenger is not that much, about 20 people. The train ticket to pass a border is 10THB. You must pass through immigration before boarding the train.

train to nong khai

Nong Khai Station

  • Show your COVID vaccine (In Laos, generally use the green card)
  • Do immegration
  • Wait for the train

Nong khai station

I arrived at the Nongkhai station around 17:45 minutes after the scheduled departure time of 17:30. Then I was required to wait until 19:30 in order to continue my journey to Bangkok.

Time from Thanaleng railway station takes about 10mins to Nong Khai railway station

Inside the train to Bangsue Station

I'm pretty impressed that the train is more modern than the previous one. The ticket I purchased to Bangkok cost 994 THB (approximately 35 USD) and was a 2nd Class Sleeper AC.

sleep

They provide pillow, thin blanket and mini pocket bottle of water. 🤩 pillow and blanket

You can track your journey with the monitor on the upper side. It includes the inside/outside temperature, route, time, and active/inactive toilet for your convenience.

monitor

If you are hungry, they also provide food and drink. Mine is the basic fried rice (it costs about 190THB), the taste is better than my expectations 😂 food menu

For me, It's comfortable to sleep Nong khai station

From Nong Khai railway to Bang Sue Grand Station takes 10h 10m. I woke up the next morning. 😴
